IIS Conducts a Cyber Law Seminar with Judges - LUMS

According to a notification, issued by the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), on June 6, 2013, LUMS Initiative of Internet and Society (IIS) conducted a seminar on Cyber Law for Judges in Punjab. Dr. Ali Qazilbash, head of Law and Policy Department at LUMS conducted the training which was attended by 25 judges and lawyers.

Day one comprised of an introduction to Cyber Law. Dr. Qazilbash discussed the basic understating of Cyber law as such a law that encapsulates the legal issues related to the use of Internet. He explained how Cyber law is related to issues, including both Internet law and the patent and copyright aspects of computer technology and software.

Cyber law which in Pakistan is a less understood and distinct field of law also elaborates on intellectual property or contract law. Dr. Qazilbash explained it as a domain covering many areas of law and regulation. He explained the use of Cyber law that can be applicable in Pakistan. These included internet access and its usage, privacy, freedom of expression, and jurisdiction.
